Performing

Alexis has been singing ever since she could talk. "My first memory is from when I was three years old. I was trying to sneak downstairs after bedtime, but I got caught when I couldn't resist singing along with the tv commercials!"

Alexis started her vocal education with choirs in all levels of school. From 4th grade through today, she has sung in as many choirs as possible--18 at last count! She currently serves as a section leader and soloist for the Battle Creek Community Chorus and the St. Thomas Episcopal Church Choir. She is also a member of Ars Voce, Battle Creek’s premier a cappella ensemble. Alexis has been performing throughout Calhoun County as a featured soloist at weddings, parties, and funerals. She made her debut with the Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra in February 2015 with their concert ‘60s Revolution,’ and was invited back for their December 2015 Holiday Extravaganza. She has sung with several bands in Calhoun and Eaton Counties, most currently with the Don Sovey Quintet and Grace the Stage.

Alexis' musical influences are numerous. Her first musical obsessions came from the oldies radio stations. The Beatles were early and perennial favorites, along with Motown legends like the Supremes and Martha and the Vandellas; folk rock and art pop like Simon & Garfunkel; and the kings and queens of classic rock from the 70s and 80s like Queen, Journey, and Blondie.

In high school Alexis' tastes evolved to include musical theatre, classical choral literature, jazz choral literature, and classical solo vocal selections.
Alexis graduated from Western Michigan University with her degree in Music Education. At WMU she fostered a love of Renaissance and Baroque vocal literature, particularly J.S. Bach and Vivaldi. She performed her senior honors recital in 2005, Women's Work: a Recital of Women Composers.

After graduating, Alexis became enamored with world music. After singing with the World Youth Choir, she was able to experience music from Finland, Zimbabwe, the Republic of Georgia, Cuba, China, and Brazil. In addition to showing the diversity of music from all over the world, she developed an appreciation for how music connects all cultures.
Lately, Alexis has been enjoying returning to her roots of classic pop and rock, and exploring the work of Joni Mitchell.
